Hands-Only CPR: The 2 Steps That Double Survival Odds

When someone collapses and is not breathing normally, bystanders often freeze because they are afraid of doing CPR "wrong." Here is the truth: doing something is almost always better than doing nothing, and hands-only CPR was designed for exactly this moment. If there's 2 things I want you to remember is;

Step 1: Call 911

Put your phone on speaker and place it on the ground next to you. The dispatcher will coach you through everything.

Step 2: Push hard and fast in the center of the chest

Lock your elbows, stack your hands, and push as hard you can. The classic trick still works: push to the beat of "Stayin' Alive."

That is it. No rescue breaths required for adult bystander CPR. In our classes we practice this until it feels like second nature, because in a real emergency you fall back on what your hands already know.
